Santa Teresa 2023

Kick off the season gently...

by Nicolas Pelletier, May 14, 2023

It was one of the first beautiful weekends of spring. Hot during the day, cool at night. No rain this time. This Sunday in Santa Teresa was a nice relaxed day, savoring several formations that clearly had fun playing in front of this crowd of happy people.

This was clearly the feeling that emanated from the Big Stage, where the girls of Milk & Bone delighted in presenting the songs from their new album released last year, "Chrysalism" with more danceable tunes than ever.

Not difficult for Clay and friends to get the party started: this band specializes in a good-natured atmosphere with Latin or Brazilian accents. The crowd lent themselves to the game without being asked!

My crush has declared itself for the sextet FRAIS DISPO, which is in fact the French-speaking project of the group Foreign Diplomats, authors of 4 LPs and many EPs between 2013 and 2021. Rarely have I heard French sound so good in such a well-marked rock!

The performance of Men I Trust was quite charming. Well in control of their art and their repertoire, the Quebec quintet has shown that their recipe works wonderfully. The guitarist Jessy Caron and the bassist (whose name is unknown to me - I'm sorry about that) held up the soaring groove atmosphere necessary for the soft trickle of Emmanuelle Proulx's voice. The band from Quebec has made good progress, playing all over the world, in addition to being invited to the NPR's Tiny Desk and Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show!

The evening ended with jumps at Monte Cristo where the punk rockers Private Lives completed their dynamic set. On the other side of the street, at Cha Cha, the trio of very young musicians from No Waves were also finishing their performance, which looked energetic judging by the audience who looked satisfied!

All in all, this 4th or 5th edition of Santa Teresa is off to a great start from the summer festivals (we don't know anymore with the pandemic...), and a nice smooth return for this festival which has seen so many all colors in recent years. It's off to a good start!
