Music & AI Had Another Big Week...

I'm exhausted.

We are seeing backlash reactions, early angles on licensing, and a look into where all these AI deepfakes are coming from.

Here's 8 things to focus on:

𝟭. 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗔𝗜 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲

Key term: 100%. They also say the technology to detect AI tracks exists & they are working with devs on it. We are about to see a lot of posturing as aggregators & platforms fear the hammer (while simultaneously trying to tap into AI systems they like).

𝟮. 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝗜 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Toggle on AI Friendly & others can upload tracks 'inspired by' you. Tracks then appear in a Generated with AI area on your profile. Unclear if artists can monetize or enforce rules. Or how the tracks are authenticated for using artist AI.

𝟯. 𝗧𝗶𝗸𝗧𝗼𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗜 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹.

They say it will "significantly lower the music creation barrier." Everyone on earth is about to become a "music creator". Heavy on the quotes here. Interactivity is where we're going.

𝟰. 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘆.

Spotify says the takedown is due to stream fraud. Streaming has a lot of issues that are only getting bigger. Boomy users have created nearly 14% of the world's recorded music: 14m+ songs 🫠.

𝟱. 𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲 & 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝘄𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁-𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀.

Training platform Hugging Face now shows what elements have opted-in using Spawning's artist consent API. Consent is integral in protecting artist rights with AI.

𝟲. 𝗣𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻𝘅 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗞𝗢𝗥𝗨𝗦: 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝟯 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀
